The King and His Kingdom – Part 1: The King Has Come

The King Has Come marks the beginning of Pastor Steve Linton’s new six-part Wednesday Bible study series, The King and His Kingdom, exploring the Gospel of Matthew.

In this opening study, Pastor Steve examines Matthew chapters 1–2 and introduces Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah, the fulfillment of God’s promises, and the King who came to save His people from their sins.

Jesus: The Lord Who Saves

The name Jesus carries a powerful meaning: “The Lord saves.” Through the account of Mary and Joseph, we discover that Jesus came with a purpose greater than meeting our earthly needs. His mission was to bring salvation and restore our relationship with God.

Emmanuel: God With Us

Matthew reveals that Jesus is Emmanuel, meaning “God with us.” He is not simply a teacher or prophet, but God manifested in the flesh. His arrival reminds us that God has not abandoned His people and that His presence remains with us through every season of life.

The Fulfillment of God’s Promises

Throughout Matthew chapters 1–2, we see how the birth of Jesus fulfilled prophecies recorded centuries earlier in Isaiah and Micah. These promises reveal God’s faithfulness and remind us that His timing and His Word can always be trusted.

Responding to the King

The wise men traveled great distances to worship Jesus, while King Herod responded with fear and resistance. Their contrasting reactions challenge us to consider how we respond to Jesus in our own lives.

True worship requires more than knowledge of Scripture. It calls for humility, intentional devotion, sacrifice, and a willingness to surrender our lives to God.

The King Has Come: A King Who Changes Everything

The King Has Come reminds us that encountering Jesus should transform the way we live. Just as the wise men returned home by a different route, our relationship with Christ should lead us toward a new direction marked by faith, obedience, and worship.

Join Pastor Steve Linton and The Journey Church as we begin this journey through Matthew and discover what it means to follow the King and live according to His Kingdom.
