Identity in Christ

Who does God say you are, and will you stand on that truth when everything around you says otherwise?

In Part 2 of The Kingdom Bible Study series, titled “Prepare the Way,” Pastor Steve Linton continues our journey through the Gospel of Matthew, exploring the message of John the Baptist, the baptism of Jesus, and His temptation in the wilderness.

Preparing Our Hearts for God’s Kingdom

In Matthew 3, John the Baptist delivers a powerful message of repentance, calling people to turn away from sin and prepare their hearts for the coming King.

Pastor Steve explains that repentance is more than feeling sorry for our mistakes. It is a genuine change of direction that leads us toward God. Through repentance, baptism in Jesus’ name, and receiving the Holy Spirit, we begin a transformed life in Christ.

Understanding Our Identity in Christ

When Jesus is baptized in the Jordan River, the Father’s voice declares His love and approval before Jesus begins His public ministry.

This moment reveals an important truth about our identity in Christ. We do not have to earn God’s love through accomplishments or religious performance. Our relationship with Him begins with surrender, faith, and obedience.

Pastor Steve reminds us that understanding who we are in Christ provides the foundation we need when life’s challenges begin testing our faith.

Standing Firm Against Temptation

In Matthew 4, Jesus enters the wilderness, where Satan attempts to challenge His identity and draw Him away from God’s will.

Each time Jesus faces temptation, He responds with Scripture.

Rather than relying on emotions, arguments, or His own physical strength, Jesus demonstrates the authority of God’s Word.

This powerful example teaches us that spiritual battles are not won by following our feelings but by standing firmly on biblical truth.

Living by God’s Word

As followers of Christ, we must prepare ourselves spiritually before challenges arise.

Pastor Steve encourages us to study Scripture daily, answer doubt and deception with God’s truth, and remain connected to the Holy Spirit and fellow believers.

Our identity in Christ is not determined by our past, our failures, or the opinions of others. It is grounded in what God has declared over our lives.

The challenge: Are you allowing circumstances and emotions to define who you are, or are you standing on what God says about you?

Join Pastor Steve for this encouraging study about repentance, spiritual identity, and standing strong through faith in Jesus Christ.
