Anointed for a Purpose

Book: Acts, Isaiah, Luke

In Anointed for a Purpose, Pastor Steve Linton reminds us that no one is an accident. God has given each of us a purpose, a new identity, and a calling that reaches beyond simply attending church. We are called to become disciples who carry what God has placed within us into the lives of others.

Through Isaiah 61:1–3, we see a picture of that mission: proclaiming good news, binding up the brokenhearted, bringing freedom to those held captive, comforting those who mourn, and exchanging ashes for beauty. Before God uses us to help restore others, however, we must allow His Spirit to work within us~healing, restoring, and changing our own lives.

In Luke 4, Jesus declares the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy, and in Acts 1:8, His followers are promised power through the Holy Spirit to become His witnesses. We don’t have to wait until we’re perfect, know enough Scripture, or have everything figured out before God can use us. He gives the power before the assignment.

The challenge is to recognize that “your purpose has an address.” Our mission begins right where God has placed us~in our homes, families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and communities. We have been anointed not simply for ourselves, but to share our testimony, reach the broken, and help change lives for the Kingdom of God.
