Series: Faith Even in Crisis ~ EP 5

September 30, 2026

Topic: Lazarus

In the final study of the Faith Even in Crisis series, Pastor Steve Linton explores what it means to trust God through one of life’s hardest realities~loss, grief, and death. Through Job 1:20–21, Job 13:15, and Job 19:25–26, we see a faith that remains rooted in God even through devastating loss, unanswered questions, and suffering. Faith doesn’t mean we won’t experience fear, pain, or questions. It means choosing to trust God in the middle of them.

Through the story of Lazarus in John 11, Jesus shows us that God is not distant from our suffering. Jesus weeps alongside those who are grieving (John 11:35) and declares, “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25). Along with the promise that believers grieve with hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13), we are reminded that death does not have the final word.

In Romans 8:11 and Romans 8:28–39, Paul reminds us that God is at work even when our circumstances don’t make sense and that nothing~not hardship, loss, death, or anything else in creation~can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

The study challenges us to be honest with God about our pain, allow others to walk alongside us, hold onto what Scripture says is true, and live with eternity in view~always ready to share the reason for our hope with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15). The grave does not have the final word. Even in crisis, God is still in control, His love remains, and our hope is found in Him.
